Steve Abana

Steve William Abana (born 1969 ) is a politician of the Solomon Islands.

Biography

After school he studied at the University of the South Pacific Tropical Agriculture and graduated with a diploma. Following this, he was Managing Director of the company Anolpha Enterprises.

His political career began Abana as a candidate of the Democratic Party with the election of Members of Parliament, in which he claimed in his re-election in 2010 the constituency Fataleka in the province of Malaita representing since 5 April 2006. On 16 October 2006 he was appointed by Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare as Minister for National Planning and Response Coordination for the first time in a government and was Sogavares Cabinet on until 10 November 2007. In the parliamentary elections in August 2010 gained his Democratic Party a majority of the votes and 11 of the 50 parliamentary seats. After the election victory, he was viewed as a possible candidate for the office of Prime Minister. However, the former Foreign Minister Danny Philip was elected prime minister by parliament as prime minister. Abana itself then became the leader of the opposition and, as such, at the same time Prime Minister and Minister for the Civil Service in the shadow cabinet.
