Steve Almond

Steve Almond ( born October 27, 1966) is an American short story writer and essayist. He is the author of ten books, of which he published three self.

Life

Almond grew up in Palo Alto, California and joined the Henry M. Gunn High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Wesleyan University in Middletown. He worked seven years as a newspaper reporter, primarily in El Paso and at the Miami New Times. He now lives with his wife and two children in Arlington, Massachusetts.

Literary work

Almond second book, Candy Freak ( 2005) was on the New York Times bestseller list and won the Alex Award from the American Library Association and was book of the year 2005, the booksellers association BookSense. His books have been published in half a dozen countries and translated into German, Dutch, Spanish and Croatian. He has published more than 150 stories in magazines such as Tin House, Playboy, Zoetrope and Ploughshares. His story " Donkey Greedy, Donkey Gets Punched " was chosen as the Best American Short Stories 2010, Spilt Milk Entertainment, the film has secured rights. Two of his stories have been awarded the Pushcart Prize. His essays and journalistic work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, GQ, The Wall Street Journal, Poets & Writers, and Real Simple. His stories and essays have been published in dozens of anthologies. Almond also evaluated in reviews books for the New York Times, The Boston Globe and The Los Angeles Times. He teaches, among other regularly at Grub Street in Boston, at the Sanibel Writer's Conference and the Tin House Writer's Conference.

Political Work

Almond was five years associate professor of creative writing at Boston College, until he announced his resignation in an open letter of resignation, which was published in the Boston Globe on May 12, 2006. In the letter, he made it clear that he set his protest against the election of State Condoleezza Rice as guest speaker at the 2006 opening. In a later appearance on the Hannity & Colmes show on Fox News, he discussed with others about his decision. Almond is a regular contributor to the New York Times Magazine and the literary website The Rumpus, where he often writes about the connection between morality and politics. His column " The Week in Greed" is an attempt to investigate the influence of greed in our political theater.

Self publishing

After a decade of working with traditional publishers, Almond has moved three books in the last few years itself, and was an outspoken advocate of self- publishing, which he wrote extensively in the Los Angeles Times, Poets & Writers in, and on The Rumpus.

Steve was a guest author of the excellent with the Elliot Norton Award piece PS Page me later the Alarm Clock Theatre Company 's, which was based on a selection from the Found Magazine.

Radio & Podcast

Almond is a regular correspondent on NPR 's Here & Now and WGBH, both in Boston. On 27 October 2011 Almond appeared as a guest of the podcast WTF with Marc Maron. Almond also hosted a podcast live interview Hallelujah the Hills bandleader Ryan Walsh under the title "This Has Been A Disaster -. Thanks For Having Us" (eg, "That was a disaster - Thank you for us to be. ").
