Steve Clarke

Steve Clarke, actually Stephen Clarke, ( born August 29, 1963 in Saltcoats, Scotland ) is a former Scottish football player and current coach.

Club career

Clarke, who was a young boy supporter of Celtic FC, played in 1980 at Beith Juniors. His professional career began then at FC St. Mirren before moving to Chelsea in February 1987. The defender denied until 1998, more than 400 games for the London, where he scored ten goals. In 1994 he was elected as Chelsea Player of the Year. He won with Chelsea 1997 FA Cup and 1998 League Cup, and - in his last game for the Blues with a 1-0 victory against VfB Stuttgart - the European Cup Winners' Cup. 2005 Clarke was elected to Chelsea Jahrhundertelf.

National

Clarke played six games for Scotland. His debut for the Tartan Army he was under coach Andy Roxburgh September 9, 1987 at Hampden Park in a 2-0 win against Hungary. 1987/88 was followed by four more missions in the blue dress, including two qualifiers for the European Championship. His comeback game under coach Craig Brown six years later went on 27 May 1994 in Utrecht against the Netherlands lost 1:3. It was at the same time Clarke's last assignment for Scotland.

Coaching career

After his playing days Clarke followed in the 1998/99 season his coach Ruud Gullit as assistant coach at Newcastle United. As Gullit left the Magpies, Clarke was in 1999 for a game as his successor interim manager of Newcastle. When Bobby Robson took office, he remained until 2000 as his assistant. He then returned as a scout for Chelsea. He then worked for a time as a youth coach at Stamford Bridge, before 2004 Cotrainer of manager José Mourinho was in the summer. After his departure, Clarke was appointed jointly with the debtor in the summer sporting director Avraham Grant to take charge for the first team on 20 September 2007. After Grant's dismissal in May 2008 Luiz Felipe Scolari was appointed coach, Clarke stood again as co- trainers. Since January 10, 2011 Clarke worked as Kotrainer of Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool. On June 8, 2012, the English first division side West Bromwich Albion announced the signing of Clarke as the new head coach. After West Brom finished the 2012/13 season on the good eighth place, Clarke was sacked the following season after four losses in a row and table number 16 on 14 December 2013.
