Steve LaSpina

Steven Frank LaSpina ( born March 24, 1954 in Wichita Falls, Texas) is an American jazz bassist.

La Spina grew up in Chicago and moved in 1979 to New York City, where he regularly with musicians like the saxophonist Benny Carter, Stan Getz and Phil Woods, vocalists Joe Williams and Mark Murphy, trumpeters Clark Terry, Chet Baker and Randy Brecker guitarist Pat Martino worked. In the 1980s he played in the trio by Claude Bolling and Marian McPartland, and in Ron McCroby quartet and in a duo with Jack Fragomeni. Since the mid- 1990s LaSpina toured with guitarist Jim Hall and took with him several albums. Since 1992, a number of albums under his own name was created for Steeplechase Records, where musicians such as Marc Copland, Billy Drewes, Jeff Hirshfield, Vic Juris, Jim McNeely, Fred Hersch, and Dave Ballou participated.

He taught at New York University, at the College of St. Rose, and since 1999 at the William Paterson University and taught courses at the Skidmore Jazz Institute of Berklee College of Music.
