Steven Van Zandt

Steven Van Zandt ( born November 22, 1950 as Steven Lento in Winthrop, Massachusetts) is an American rock musician, actor and radio host. He is best known as a guitarist in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band and as an actor in the television series The Sopranos. He is married to Maureen Van Zandt since 1982.

Biography

As a musician, he is known under the pseudonyms of Little Steven and Miami Steve. He is considered one of the founders of the Sound Of Asbury Park ( SOAP), as well as Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny and Billy Chinnock, to name just a few. Although he was close friends with Springsteen since the mid-teens, he only joined during the recording of Born to Run, where he was only acting as a co-producer, in July 1975 as a member of the band to the E Street Band. The album also meant the breakthrough for Springsteen and his band. After a successful time with the E Street Band Van Zandt left that in 1984 to increasingly have to worry about various solo projects. In the E Street Band, Nils Lofgren took over his role as a guitarist. Van Zandt was henceforth incorporated into many music projects. He had, for example, as the frontman of the group, The Disciples of Soul.

Steven Van Zandt showed throughout his career again and again as a politically active person. So he founded the initiative in 1985 Artists United Against Apartheid, which rebelled against the theme park complex Sun City in South Africa. Together with 49 international artists (including Bruce Springsteen, Bono, Bob Dylan and Run DMC ) took Van Zandt song at Sun City in which they assured never to appear there.

In 1999, the E Street Band - reformed Springsteen - after a long break since 1991. Van Zandt also was back with it, along with Nils Lofgren. In 1999, she went on a big European and U.S. tour and played in 2002 under the influence of the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001 with a new studio album The Rising one.

After a small walk-on role in the 1980 1999 Van Zandt began career as an actor. He took over the role of Silvio Dante in the U.S. television series The Sopranos. He embodies in this role a strip club owner who is a member of the Mafia in New Jersey and is one of the closest friends of the boss, Tony Soprano, is one whose Consigliere ( Advisor ) he is. With this first post on the U.S. pay-TV channel HBO series he won several film and television awards along with the other protagonists. His appearances became increasingly rare in the second and third season of the series, because he had a busy schedule through the tour with the E Street Band. In the sixth season, he played a supporting role again and was seen in 81 of a total of 86 episodes. In four episodes of the series, he has also contributed to the soundtrack.

Started in 2002 with Little Steven Van Zandt 's Underground Garage, a radio broadcast in which he deals with garage rock and other subgenres of rock music.

After the end of the TV series The Sopranos in 2006 he founded a record label under the name Wicked Cool Records.

As of 2010, it brought Van Zandt through television appearances in Norway of some presence - in the Norwegian soap opera Hotel Cæsar on the channel TV 2, and from 2012 in the Norwegian- American television series Lilyhammer, in which he is a mafia boss by the witness protection program hiding in Norway. The series is a joint venture between the Norwegian broadcaster NRK and the video -on- demand provider Netflix. Lilyhammer is the first series where Netflix is involved from the beginning. Van Zandt has been the first season co-producer and co-writer.
