Štitáre

Štitáre (Slovak to 1979 " Dolné Štitáre " - to 1948 " Dolné Stitary " - to 1927 " Čitáry "; Hungarian Alsócsitár - to 1907 Csitár ) is a city and a municipality in western Slovakia with 716 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011). It is located in Okres Nitra, a circle of higher administrative unit Nitriansky kraj.

Geography

Štitáre is located in the hills at the Danube river Kadan, a left tributary of Nitra, at the foot of the mountain Tribeč under the mountain Žibrica (617 m nm ), eight kilometers northeast of Nitra located.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1113 as Scitar writing.

Between 1975 and 2002 he was a district of Nitra. The community was and is predominantly agricultural.
