Stomil Olsztyn (football)

OKS Stomil Olsztyn ( officially Olsztyński club Sportowy Stomil Olsztyn ) is a sports club from the Polish city of Olsztyn ( German: Olsztyn ). It was founded on July 15, 1945 and 1973, after the main sponsor Stomil ( largest tire manufacturer in Poland - now acquired by Michelin ) renamed Stomil Olsztyn. After descending from the Ekstraklasa, the club was disbanded for financial reasons and re-founded in 2003 as OKP Warmia i Mazury Olstzyn. 2004, the club returned to its original name OKS 1945 Olsztyn. The colors of the club are white-blue - white. The club currently plays (season 2012 /13) in the Polish 1st League and thus in the second division in the country. Under pressure from the fans and many in charge, the club called since February 16, 2012 OKS Stomil again.

Home ground of OKS Stomil is the 16,800 capacity stadium OSi. There are plans to demolish the stadium and build a new building.

Overall, the club eight seasons (1994-2002) played in the Ekstraklasa, the top Polish league. Greatest success was the sixth place in the season 1995 /96 apply.

The OKS Stomil is one of the few professional clubs and especially the biggest club in the Warmia - Mazury and for this reason has a large fan base. At the time when Stomil still played in the Ekstraklasa, had relatively high average attendance. The current squad of Olsztyn is composed almost exclusively of players from Olsztyn and the region.
