Stoos

Stoos (usually called "the Stoos " and not to be confused with shock ) is a car free village and ski resort on Morsch Acher municipality in the Swiss canton of Schwyz. The village is 1,305 meters above sea level on a plateau. It has 106 inhabitants and 2200 guest beds. The ski area stretches up to an altitude of 1,922 m.

Transport links

Access is by a road ( only with special permission ) of Muotathal and by funicular (of Schwyz- Schlattli ) or cableway possible (of Morschach ). The funicular ( Stoosbahn ), which has a capacity of 1000 people per hour, was built in 1933 and spans up to 1383 meters, a height difference of 786m. With 78 % incline it is one of the steepest funiculars in the world. The station Schlattli can be reached by bus line 1 of AAGS within 10 minutes from Schwyz ago. The operating license, the funicular is only good until the end of 2016. Since a renewal of the existing funicular railway is considered too expensive, the Stoosbahn plans to build a new funicular Rear Schlattli - Stoos center.

Winter sports facilities

At the Stoos two quad chairlifts are (built in 2000) on Fronalpstock, a six-seater chairlift (built in 2007) with heated seats on the floor and the blade lifts Maggiweid, Sternegg and Holibrig. The six-seater chairlift is the longest of its kind in Central Switzerland. It overcomes the difference in height of 581.50 m in six and a half minutes. Further, there are toboggan runs, a Airboardrun -piste, cross-country skiing and winter hiking trails.

The construction of the new six-seater chairlift, four new variants emerged on the runway Klingenstock. For the skiers received a FIS -homologated training and race track that allows a smooth operation in downhill and super -G parallel to the slope operations. The " Franz Heinzer runway " was built according to the FIS rules and therefore has a high standard of security. The road is named after the skier Franz Heinzer.
