Strathmore (Alberta)

Strathmore is a town in southern Alberta, Canada. It is located 40 km east of Calgary on the Trans-Canada Highway.

History

In 1883, Strathmore was created as a working class neighborhood on the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1905 and moved about six kilometers to the north. The railway line between Strathmore and Cheadle was the scene of a record in track construction: within one hour 1.6 km track were laid, and after just one working Strathmore was associated with the 15 km distant city Cheadle. Now at the suggestion of the Canadian government, more and more settlers came to Strathmore, boosting the population. Today, the city has lost its importance, as it no longer is next to a railway line.
