Stráž nad Nežárkou

Straz nad Nežárkou ( German: place of Naser ) is a town with 846 inhabitants in Okres Jindřichův Hradec in the Czech Republic.

Geography

Straz nad Nežárkou is located on the European road E 551, about halfway between the county town of Jindřichův Hradec (Neuhaus ) and Trebon ( Trebon ). On the northern outskirts of the Nežárka flows. Neighboring towns are Plavsko, Vydří, Příbraz and Pístina.

History

At the point of waiting on the Nežárka a castle was first mentioned in 1284, their late-Gothic tower is still preserved today. The castle was built by the Lords of Straz, a 1267 -founded branch line of the Lords of Hradec. In the 14th century the borough was raised to market. The Gothic parish church of St. Peter and Paul is first mentioned in 1361.

Heinrich von Straz, who pleaded for Utraquismus, held under King George of Podiebrad the office of Colonel land steward. With his son Georg / Jiřík became extinct in 1474, the dynasty of Straz. Subsequently, the owners changed frequently. Beginning of the 16th century the village belonged to the Kuttenberger entrepreneurs Wenzel Wenzelik of Wrchowischt ( Václav Vencelík z Vrchoviště ). In 1577 it was the property of John the Elder. von Lobkowitz, the Colonel Viscount William of Rosenberg sold it this year. From this it inherited in 1592 his brother Peter Wok von Rosenberg, who fought against the subsequent economic bankruptcy. To help him acquired Adam II von Neuhaus shortly before his death in 1596 Straz. His son Joachim Ulrich von Neuhaus, the last male descendant of the Lords of Hradec, gave the rule Straz 1602 his brother William Slavata, in whose descendants it remained until 1693.

1876, the market town was elevated by Emperor Franz Joseph I to the city. After the Second World War the city rights were lost. Since 2006, Straz is a city again.

Attractions

  • The 1361 mentioned parish church of St. Peter and Paul was rebuilt in 1413. Further changes were made in the 19th century. In the grown Michael chapel, there is a epitaph for Heinrich von Straz.
