Stryama

The Strjama in the western Rosental

The Strjama ( Bulgarian Стряма ) is a left-side ( north ) side of the river Maritsa in Central Bulgaria, which runs exclusively in Oblast Plovdiv.

Course

The 110.1 km long river has its source in the Central Balkan National Park at the top Weschen, with 2,198 m above sea level one of the highest mountains in the Balkan Mountains. Next stop is the south-east (8 km distance) remote klisura. Next the Strjama flows in an easterly direction through the western Rosental. In Banja it turns south and runs partly parallel to the road No. 64 to pass under the A1 motorway and flows 15 km east of Plovdiv in the Maritsa.
