Sturm und Drang (Band)

Sturm und Drang is a Heavy-Metal-/Hard-Rock-Band from Vaasa ( Finland).

History

The band was formed in 2004, when André Linman and Henrik Kurkiala were on their way home from a Judas Priest concert. Kurkialas father suggested the band's name, which refers to the same period of German literature of the 18th century. After a short time, keyboardist Jesper Welroos and drummer Carl Peter Fahl Lund joined. The first rehearsals took place in the basement of Fahl Lund's parents' house. After the first concerts the musicians decided to take a second guitarist. Alexander Ivars finally completed the occupation.

A year later, the band recorded the demo Rising Son. The demo they sent to the Helsinki Music Company record company (HMC ). Their owners took the musicians because of their young age - at that time they were 12 respectively 13 years old - initially not serious. He changed his mind after he saw the band in the opening act of the Hellacopters. Impressed, he gave them a contract.

The debut album Learning to Rock was released on 30 May 2007 in Finland and June 2, 2007 in the rest of Northern Europe. It debuted at number three on the Finnish album chart, spending five weeks in the top 10, the advance single from the Rising Son also reached number three on the Finnish single charts.

In the rest of Europe the album was released on August 17, 2007 via GUN Records.

From 21 October to 11 November 2007, they were opened for Apocalyptica on a European tour.
