Submental artery

The lower jaw artery (Latin arteria submental ) is a vessel branch of the facial artery, which runs on the underside of the lower jaw along.

Course

The submental artery arises as the largest cervical branch of the facial artery, after that the submandibular gland ( submandibular gland ) left. It runs on the mylohyoid muscle just below the body of the mandible forward and is conducted from the digastric muscle covered.

Branches

The lower jaw artery supplied by small branches of the surrounding muscles and anastomoses with the sublingual artery ( in humans does not exist) and the ramus inferior alveolar mylohyoid artery.

Near the symphysis of the mandible, it swings up over the edge of the mandible and divides into two terminal branches:

  • Superficial branch: The superficial branch runs between the facial skin and the depressor labii inferior anastomoses with the inferior and the arteria labialis.
  • Deep branch: The deep branch runs between the depressor labii inferioris and the lower jaw bone. It supplies the lower lip and anastomoses with the arteria labialis inferior and mentalis with the artery.
