Subodh Mukherjee

Subodh Mukherjee ( Bengali: সুবোধ মুখার্জি, Subodh Mukhārji; born April 14, 1921 in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, † 21 May 2005 Mumbai, Maharashtra ) was a Bengali Indian film producer and director of Hindi film.

He began in 1944 as an assistant director for Gyan Mukherjee Chal Chal Re Naujawan. It was the first film which was founded by Subodh Mukherjee's elder brother Sashadhar film production company Filmistan. After he had already worked as a screenwriter for the company, he had there his directorial debut with Munimji (1955 ), followed by Paying Guest (1957 ), a commercially successful streak with Dev Anand in the lead role.

Love Marriage ( 1959) was Mukherjee's first self -produced under the label Subodh Mukerji Productions film. He was followed by Junglee (1961 ) - the first Indian film in Eastman Color and career start for Shammi Kapoor - and April Fool (1964). Here, Subodh Mukherjee kept strictly to the strategy, movies as easy to set up romantic Musicals and pure vehicle for the appearance of the star. His last film production was made in 1985.

Subodh Mukherjee died 21 May 2005 in Mumbai from leukemia.
