Sudislavl

Sudislawl (Russian Судиславль ) is an urban-type settlement in the Kostroma Oblast in Russia. It has 4913 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) and is the administrative center of the district of the same name ( Rajons ).

History

The town was founded as an outpost on the border of the kingdom of Kievan Rus. Grand Prince Vladimir sent forth his Son Sudislaw, so that secure the border town could. According to him, the place is named today.

1758 the Transfiguration Cathedral was built. In 1854 the town had 1030 inhabitants, in 1895 there were 1720. From 1719 to 1925 had Sudislawl city rights held.

1969, a historical museum was established in the former house of the merchant Kokorew.

The place has wood and food industries. In addition, agriculture is, among other things Romanov sheep and fur farming.
