Suite bergamasque

The suite is bergamasque piano suites by Claude Debussy. It is one of the most famous works of the French composer. The suite was composed in 1890, but published only in 1905 and consists of four movements:

The Prelude is in the key of F major. The second movement is titled Menuet (a minor). The third movement is the famous Clair de Lune ( D flat major ), the fourth and final movement is finally Passepied in F sharp minor.

Clair de Lune

The most famous part of the suite bergamasque is the third set. The name is most likely of the poem Clair de Lune (French: Moonlight or moonshine ) by Paul Verlaine inspired. The title of the suite was probably inspired by the occurring in the second line of the poem quote " masques et bergamasques ".

Use in the cinema

  • Walt Disney had originally planned to use Clair de Lune in a scene from the movie musicals Fantasia, but the sequence has been canceled due to the excessive length of the film. The ready- animated sequence in which accompanies the movements of animated cranes music, was restored in 1996 from a workprint and is in the DVD box set of Fantasia contain 2000.
  • In the film Seven Years in Tibet by 1997, the protagonist ( Heinrich Harrer ) by the Dalai Lama receives a music box, which plays Clair de Lune.
  • In the movie The Game of 1997 ( with Michael Douglas ) the piece in the restaurant scene of a (not visible ) is playing pianist.
  • An orchestral version can be heard from 2001 at the end of the film Ocean's Eleven, as well as several times in Frankie & Johnny with Michelle Pfeiffer and Al Pacino.
  • A digital version was used in the soundtrack of Ocean's 13.
  • In many scenes from Federico Fellini's film And the Ship Sails ( in the original: E la nave va) 1983 Clair de Lune is played.
  • Furthermore, the piece Clair de Lune in the films Atonement was played ( with Keira Knightley and James McAvoy ) and The Darjeeling Limited by Wes Anderson ( 2007).
  • Clair de Lune is also in the film adaptations of Twilight - Bis (s ) on the morning (2008), New Moon - Bis (s ) at noon (2009) and Eclipse - listen to Bis (s ) Eclipse (2010).
  • In the film, Tokyo Sonata, the piece towards the end of a boy is presented at an audition.
  • In The Scent of Green Papaya, a pianist plays twice a portion of Clair de Lune.
  • In Man on Fire, parts of the piece can be heard several times.
  • In the credits of the film The Children of Paris ( 2010) is to hear the piece as well.

Use in music

  • The song Back From Space by Amon Tobin contains a sample of Clair de Lune.
  • The music Angelica by Lamb also contains a sample of Clair de Lune

Edits

  • Clair de Lune was arranged by Wilhelm Kaiser - Lindemann for 12 cellos. This processing was played by the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic.
