Sukhoi Su-12

The Sukhoi Su -12 (Russian Сухой Су -12, NATO reporting name: "Type 23") referred to as a project RK, was a Soviet twin-engined reconnaissance aircraft, which was realized shortly after the Second World War.

Development

The experimental design bureau ( OKB ) Sukhoi orientated himself strongly to the German reconnaissance plane Focke -Wulf Fw 189 A few specimens of this type were captured during the war by the Red Army and had been tested in the Scientific Research Institute of the Soviet Air Force ( NII VVS ). Many components of the body designated by the Soviet soldiers as "Flying frame " aircraft were is trying to match for the new project, such as the arranged in the wing center section and an excellent all-round visibility bidding fully glazed crew gondola and the interpretation with double hulls, the front parts recorded the engines. The drive was carried out by two Shvetsov - ASch -82 radial engines which powered four-leaf propellers. The wings were arranged in mid-wing design of the hulls.

Flight testing began after a one-year construction period in December 1947 with the first flight of the prototype. The Su -12 had good flight characteristics and the performances were promising. However, their interpretation as piston engine aircraft no longer met in the dawning jet engine era meet the requirements, therefore, there was no mass production.
