Sukhoi Su-47
The Sukhoi Su -47 Berkut (Russian Сухой Су -47 Беркут, German eagle, NATO reporting name: Firkin ) is an experimental aircraft for a hochmanövrierfähigen air superiority fighter for the Russian Air Force. The machine had in-plant initially has the designation S -37 and Sukhoi Su- is based on the 27th
History
The project began in the 1970s under the name of I-90 and led to the experimental projects, S-37 by Sukhoi and MiG 1:44 of Mikoyan-Gurevich. From the S-37 finally went the Su -47 with swept wings negative, similar to the American Grumman X -29, forth.
The advantage of the negative sweep of the wing is in a better maneuverability, higher angles of attack possible by greater buoyancy and a low stall speed. The problem of high torsion forces are counteracted by use of composite materials.
On 25 September 1997 launched the S-37, which was often mistakenly referred to as the Su- 37 or S -47, the first flight. It is still equipped with the Series engines Soloviev D- 30F -6 of the MiG -31 and should get better later engines. These new engines will also possess a thrust vector control. Strikingly large are the engine inlets, which are supplemented by lateral Zusatzeinlässe the fuselage. At the rear, a backward-looking radar and a fishing hook is installed.
Despite difficult financial situation, the testing will continue. In 2001, the aircraft received the official designation Su -47. Experiences with the Su -47 were used in the development of the Sukhoi T-50.
