Sulpitius the Pious

Sulpicius II (* end of the 6th century in Vatan, France, † January 17 647 in Bourges ) was Bishop of Bourges and is a saint of the Catholic Church.

Life

Sulpicius II was the descendant of a Gallo- Roman noble family. He became a deacon under Bishop Austregisilus ( Outrille ) of Bourges and initially headed the Episcopal school. Later, Clotaire II, king of the Frankish Empire appointed him to Hofgeistlichen. As 624 the bishop of Bourges - the Holy Austregisilus - died Sulpicius II was determined as his successor.

As a bishop to Sulpicius efforts concentrated on the restoration of ecclesiastical discipline and the conversion of the Jews. He took 626 at the Synod of Clichy part. His treasurer Desiderius he consecrated as Bishop of Cahors. Towards the end of his life continued Sulpicius a coadjutor one, retired to a monastery founded by him and died at the age of about fifty years ago on January 17, 647

Worship

The Holy several churches were consecrated, including Saint- Sulpice in Paris, the Rev. Jean -Jacques Olier founded the Congregation of the Sulpician priest in 1642. Other important buildings are the Romanesque priory dreiapsidiale Saint- Sulpice the small southwestern French town Marignac and the late Gothic church of Saint -Sulpice in Fougères. The feast of Saints is the 17th of January.
