SUMCO

K. K. SUMCO (Japanese株式会社SUMCO, kabushiki - gaisha samuko, .. Engl SUMCO Corp. ) is a Japanese company that is engaged in the production of single crystals and wafers for the semiconductor industry.

History

Today's SUMCO under the name K. K. Silicon United Manufacturing (株式会社 シリコン ユナイテッド マニュファクチュア リング) founded in July 1999 by Sumitomo Metal Industries, Mitsubishi Materials and Mitsubishi Materials Silicon to develop and produce 300 - mm silicon wafer. In February 2002, it acquired the wafer business of Sumitomo Metal Industries and was merged with Mitsubishi Materials Silicon Corporation, the trading name Sumitomo Mitsubishi silicone COrporation was changed. In 2005 a further change of the English name in SUMCO Corporation. Sumitomo Metal Industries and Mitsubishi Materials Corporation hold to date each 27.8 % of the action of SUMCO.

Field of activity

SUMCO supplies the semiconductor industry with single-crystal ingots and wafers varied ( polished, epitaxial, annealed SOI). SUMCO is the world's second largest producer of wafers ( to Shin -Etsu before and Wacker Chemie / Siltronic ) and one of the leading manufacturers of 300 - mm wafers.

SUMCO was, like all other wafer manufacturers, very hard hit by the slump in demand in 2008/2009, which was triggered by the general financial and economic crisis. With sales of 218 billion yen so could only a negative result of -100.5 billion yen are reported. In 2007, sales were still at a level of 475 billion yen with a positive result of 74.9 billion yen.
