Sumu (administrative division)

A sum is an administrative unit in the People's Republic of China at the community level. All currently still 151 Sum (as of 31 December 2012) are located in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In the last ten years more and more Sum were converted into towns and large communities, however, the number of the sum is enlarged in the last two years.

The Sum lie in the predominantly Mongolian populated and dominated by pastoral areas of Inner Mongolia and meet there the communities. Just as the municipalities are administratively Sum above the village or Gaqaa and under the circle or banner.

Nationalities - Sum

A special case is the nationality Sum (民族 苏木/民族 苏木). It corresponds to the Nationality community (民族乡). However, there is only a single example, the Evenki nationalities - Sum (鄂温克 民族 苏木) in the Old Bargu Hulun Buir banner of the city, which thus increased the number of sum total to 152.
