The Super Aguri SA08 was the Formula 1 racecar of Super Aguri for the 2008 Formula 1 season. He participated in the first 4 of the 18 races this season.
Technology and Development
The SA08 was based on a revised chassis of the Honda RA107, which had been used by Honda Racing with little success in the 2007 Formula 1 season. The engine was also provided by Honda and the tires came from Bridgestone.
Paint and sponsorship
The base coat was white with numerous red color accents. On the Boliden sponsor stickers from Honda and Bridgestone were installed.
Driver
The driver line-up remained unchanged to the previous year. At the start of the Japanese Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson, the Briton went. As a test driver James Rossiter was named the Briton.
Season 2008
Since the summer of 2007 Super Aguri had big financial problems because the sponsor SS United presented no more money available. It was a long time not clear whether the race team could ever start to the 2008 season. With the help of Honda you allowed the team a start for the Grand Prix of Australia. Due to the scarcity of funds, the team had, however, can only drive a few kilometers of testing, so that one was not competitive.
The season opener in Australia did not go well for Super Aguri. Both pilots were not used in the race to the finish. At the following race in Malaysia was not a failure to complain. Davidson came to the finish position 15 followed by his teammate Sato. With these rankings, the team was satisfied. Also in the third round of both pilots came to the finish. The financial situation had, however, but not improved. Efforts to find new investors were meanwhile failed. After negotiations with the most promising investor Magma failed, a start to the Grand Prix in Spain has been questioned. In the end, the team started yet and were served by a 13th place by Sato the best result of the season so far.
At the Turkish Grand Prix Super Aguri was no longer at the start. It had been the team's paddock prohibited because doubts arose as to whether it would ever be able to start. As a result, the team announced that it gets out of the World Cup.
