Supersax

Supersax was founded in 1972, a nine-member jazz band playing the music of Charlie Parker in harmonized arrangements.

The band was first of the two founders, saxophonist Med Flory and bassist Buddy Clark (who until 1975 was there ), directed, then alone by Flory, who also arranged. Supersax existed alongside the rhythm section composed of five saxophones (2 Tenor, 2 treble, 1 baritone) and trumpet or trombone. The saxophonist played the Parker solos " note for note " (but in harmonious sets ), they did not play your own solos. As original soloists were ( on the plates ), only the respective Brass forth, among other things, the trumpeter Conte Candoli and trombonist Frank Rosolino and Carl Fontana. Saxophonists were, inter alia, Warne Marsh (founding member ), Bill Perkins (founding member ), Jay Migliori (tenor, with the Flory had the idea for the foundation ), Jack Nimitz (founding member, baritone ), Lanny Morgan ( Alt). In the 1980s, the band also played with the "LA Voices " ( and took with them several plates ).

1974 Supersax was honored for her first album with a Grammy ( Best Jazz Performance by a Group).
