Susan Alcorn

Susan Alcorn ( born 1953 ) is an American composer and guitarist ( pedal steel guitar). She composes and plays contemporary music and take part in free improvisation.

Alcorn started playing the guitar at the age of twelve years. She had interest in folk, blues and pop music of the sixties quickly. As the music of Muddy Waters they anregete to play the slide guitar, she worked her way into the pedal steel guitar. At twenty-one she played in various country and western bands in Texas.

She began classical playing techniques with influences from free jazz, avant-garde classical music, Indian ragas and different directions of the world's folk music combine. End of the nineties showed in their music an influence of the so-called " Deep Listening " philosophy of Pauline Oliveros.

Although she mainly performs solo performances, Alcorn worked with artists including Pauline Oliveros, Eugene Chadbourne, Peter Kowald, Chris Cutler, Joe Giardullo, Caroline Kraabel, Lê Quan Ninh, Sean Meehan, Joe McPhee, LaDonna Smith, Mike Cooper, Walter Daniels, Jandek, and Johanna Varner together.

She wrote in the music magazines "Resonance " and " Counter Punch". Your article "The Road the radio, and the Full Moon" was " Da Capo Press " included in the list of the best music products in 2006.
