Svilajnac

Svilajnac ( Serbian / Свилајнац ) is a city in the narrower Serbia. The administrative headquarters of the Opština Svilajnac is located on the Resava.

The city belongs to the administrative district Pomoravlje and has about 9,400 inhabitants.

Svilajnac was first mentioned in 1467 in the Ottoman reports. The place then became known for its silk production, how it got its name is derived ( serb. Svila - dt silk).

Svilajnac is the birthplace of Stevan Sinđelić, the leader of the first Serbian uprising against the Ottoman rule by 1804. A statue stands in his honor in the town center.
