Sweepstakes (schooner)
The Sweepstakes in Lake Huron
The Sweepstakes was a Canadian schooner. The ship was built in 1867 and sailed as a merchant ship, the Great Lakes. In August 1895, ran in front of Lake Huron Cove Iceland aground, and was towed to Big Tub Harbour near Tobermory. There it sank in September 1895. Today the wreck of the Sweepstakes is a part of the Fathom Five National Marine Park. Because of the hull almost completely preserved, it is a popular destination for divers.
