Åšwidnik

Świdnik [ ɕf idɲik ʲ ] is a town in Poland, in the Lublin province about 10 km east of Lublin and the seat of the powiat Świdnik.

The name is derived from the plant Świdwa which on German Blood Red Dogwood (Cornus sanguinea ) is called.

History

The first written mention of the village dates from the year 1392nd The name of the place was Świdnik Major, later Świdnik Minor. 1795 was the place of the Habsburg Empire. 1809 Świdnik became part of the Grand Duchy of Warsaw and in 1815 part of Congress Poland. After the First World War the city was Polish. Even before the outbreak of the Second World War an airfield was built in the city. 1951 Near the airfield was started with the production of parts for the MiG -15. In 1954 started the construction of a helicopter factory. In the same year Świdnik received city rights. 1956 left with the SM -1 and Mi- 1, the first in Poland produced ( with license) helicopter factory. On 8 July 1980, at the beginning of numerous strikes in Poland, began a strike in the helicopter factory. This widened during August 1980 from large parts of the city. In 1999 it was seat of a powiat.

Economy and Transport

Świdnik is the seat of the helicopter factory PZL Świdnik the local airport is being expanded to Lublin Świdnik International Airport.
