The Sydney Cricket Ground is a sports stadium, which is located in Sydney, Australia. In the stadium with an oval field next to the eponymous cricket and Australian football and occasionally rugby league and rugby union matches are played. For football and rugby, equipped with a rectangular pitch Sydney is located in the immediate vicinity Football Stadium.

History

In 1851, the site was left to the British armed forces of the Victoria Barracks in order to use it as a garden and cricket pitch. The first recorded cricket match took place in 1854. As in 1870, the armed forces, the Victoria Barracks tasks, the stadium was the current owner, the Government of New South Wales and is founded on the current operator, the Sydney Cricket Ground Trust. As a result, the stadium was renovated and next to cricket, many other sports such as tennis, athletics and rugby league were held here. 1977, a museum was incorporated into the stadium and it built the first floodlights year. Cricket

The stadium is the second in Australia in the Test cricket matches have been played. The first test in 1882 was played between Australia and England, the Australia won by 5 wickets. Since then it is regularly used for important tests, such as the Ashes matches against England. In one- day cricket, the stadium has been the venue for the 1992 Cricket World Cup, with three preliminary rounds and a semi-final match took place here. Games in the Twenty20 format are preferred held at ANZ Stadium.

Australian Football

Australian Football was played in the 19th century here. However, a regular team of the Australian Football League came only in this stadium, moved as the Swans Football Club from Melbourne to Sydney.
