1992 Cricket World Cup

The ICC Cricket World Cup 1992 which was held in Australia and New Zealand from February 22 to March 25, 1992, was the fifth Cricket World Cup. The World Cup will be held in the One- Day International format, in which each team plays each innings over a maximum of 50 over. In the final, Pakistan defeated the team from England.

Participant

As participants were qualified in addition to the seven nations with test status South Africa and Zimbabwe. For the team from South Africa, it was the first participation in a World Cup after which it was not a member of the ICCs 1961-1991 and received its test status one month after the tournament. Zimbabwe, which had prevailed in the ICC Trophy in 1990, received his test status also in the same year:

As venues ten stages were selected in Australia and eight stadiums in New Zealand.

Format

In a preliminary groups with nine teams played against each, with one win, two points, a draw or no result earned a point. It qualified the first four of this group for the semi-finals, the winners playing off in the final. Overall, there was thus 39 encounters.

Innovations

Colored jerseys, white balls and floodlights were first used in this World Cup. Introduced Rain rule that should fix the problems of the old system in the rain, was seen after the tournament as unsuccessful. This was triggered mainly the semi-final between England and South Africa.
