1979 Cricket World Cup

The ICC Cricket World Cup 1979 which was held in England from 9 to June 23, 1979, was the second Cricket World Cup. This World Cup was held in the One- Day International format, where each team has played each one a maximum of 60 innings over. In the final, West Indies defeated the host England team and was able to defend the title in 1975.

Format

In two preliminary round groups of four teams each played against anyone with a victory four points, a draw or no result earned two points. It qualified the top two in this group for the semi-finals, the winners playing off in the final. Overall, there was thus 15 encounters.
