Sylvain Chomet

Sylvain Chomet ( born November 10, 1963 in Maisons- Laffitte, Yvelines ) is a three -time Academy Award -nominated, French film director, comic book writer and screenwriter of animated films.

Life and achievements

Chomet was born in a town near Paris. He graduated from high school in 1982 a College of Applied Arts. In 1986 he published his first comic book Le secret des libellules, more followed. For three years he attended the Comic Strip club in the French town of Angoulême and closed it in 1987 with a diploma. He moved to London and resulted in animated TV commercials director. From 1993 he lived for a time in Canada and made television commercials.

His first animated short film was The Old Lady and the Pigeons ( La vieille dame et les pigeons ) (1997 ). He won in 1997 for a British Academy Film Award for Best Animated Short Film and a Genie Award in the category of Best Animated Short Film. In 1998 he was nominated for Best Animated Short Film Oscar in the category. The development of this film took ten years, his next was accomplished in half the time. In the acclaimed animated film The Triplets of Belleville ( 2003) led Chomet directed, wrote the screenplay and acted as a character designer. In 2004 he was nominated for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for the Oscar in the category, as it was in 2004 nominated for a César Award in the categories of Best Film and Best debut and at the Independent Spirit Awards 2004. Also, various other awards were awarded to Chomets works.

In the international film Paris, je t'aime (2006), who introduces Parisian districts, he created the part about the Eiffel Tower.

He also worked as a scriptwriter of comics. He received about the album Léon la came in 1996 the Prix René Goscinny on the Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d' Angoulême.

Chomet lives near the Scottish city of Edinburgh. His film studio named Django Films. Published in 2010 Chomet The Illusionist with an animated film which is based on an unpublished writer Jacques Tati and the famous comedian takes on the title role. This again earned him a nomination for best animated feature film.
