Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chanda

The Eparchy of Chanda (Latin: Eparchia Chandaensis ) is an eparchy of the united with the Roman Catholic Church Syro - Malabar Church, based in Chanda in India. It includes the districts of Wardha, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

History

Pope Paul VI. founded the Apostolic Exarchate of Chanda on 29 July 1968 from the Diocese of Amravati and cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Nagpur, which it was assumed as a suffragan.

With the Apostolic Constitution Nostra ipsorum it was raised on 26 February 1977 on the eparchy. A part of the territory it lost on 23 June 1999 to the bishopric of Adilabad.
