Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County
Szabolcs -Szatmár -Bereg [ sɒbolʧ sɒtma ː r bɛrɛɡ ] is a county (administrative district ) in northeastern Hungary. It is bordered by Romania and Ukraine as well as the counties of Hajdú -Bihar and Borsod -Abaúj -Zemplén. It has an area of 5936 km ² and (2001) 586 158 inhabitants. The county seat is Nyíregyháza.

Geography
The area is flat and has a share in the Hungarian Great Plain ( Puszta ). It is drained by the river Tisza, which makes a sharp turn from north-west to the south of the county.

The county was created from the union of Szabolcs with the remains of the counties Szatmár ( the main part in Satu Mare in Romania is ) and Bereg (whose former capital Beregszász (now Berehove ) located in Ukraine and the area around Mukachevo in the Oblast Transcarpathia forms ).
