Tacna (Region)
The region Tacna (Spanish: Región Tacna, Quechua Taqna suyu ) is the southernmost region of Peru. It is bordered to the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the east by Bolivia and on the south by Chile. Covering an area of 16,075 km ² 246 076 people ( 1996). The capital is Tacna.
Geography
The landscape is very mountainous, snow-capped mountain Chupiquiña reaches a height of 5,788 meters.

History
The province was occupied in 1880 in the saltpeter from Chile. Although she was awarded in 1883 in the Treaty of Ancon in Peru, but remained occupied until 1929, contrary to the agreement of Chile. The Tacna - Arica compromise of U.S. President Herbert Hoover then led to the final return of the province of Peru.
