Taktisches Luftwaffengeschwader 73

The Tactical Air Force Wing 73 "Steinhoff" ( TaktLwG 73 "S"), until 30 September 2013 Jagdgeschwader 73 "Steinhoff" (JG 73 "S"), is one of three Euro Fighter squadrons of the Luftwaffe. It was the first squadron of the Bundeswehr in 2004 the Euro Fighter as new aircraft and is responsible for the implementation of the course- bound form of the German and Austrian pilot on that type. Stationed is the TaktLwG 73 "S" at the airbase south of Rostock Laage.

History

Jagdgeschwader 73 was set up on 1 December 1959 the airbase Oldenburg and equipped with the aircraft type Canadair CL -13B Sabre Mk 6. 1961, the association was moved to the airbase horse field in Rhineland -Palatinate, on October 1, 1964, the reclassification and renaming of JG 73 in Fighter Bomber Wing 42 and the conversion to the Fiat G.91 fighter aircraft. In 1967 it was renamed the Light Combat Squadron 42 and 1975 with the introduction of the F- 4F in Fighter Bomber Wing 35

Jagdgeschwader 73 at Laage walked out of the merger of the Fighter Bomber Wing 35 from horse field and the testing squadron MiG -29, the successor to the Jagdfliegergeschwader 3 " Vladimir Komarov " the NVA in Dash (Brandenburg), out.

A special feature, the 1st season with her as the only fighter jets from the NVA acquired 24 MiG- 29 " Fulcrum " dar. Originally, they were stationed at JG -3 of the NVA on the airfield Dash in Lusatia. This was in 1991 renamed the testing squadron MiG -29 and on May 31, 1993 Jagdgeschwader 73 and laid on October 1, 1994, after Laage.

The German MiG -29 was intended for training purposes popular " opponents " to the eastward expansion of NATO, the only fighter aircraft of the former Warsaw Pact into NATO and maneuvers with allies. For this purpose, they transferred several times, inter alia, to the United States, and in particular the Nellis AFB in Las Vegas. With the introduction of the Euro Fighter flight operations a total of 22 MiG-29s were delivered to the Polish Air Force. One machine had crashed in 1996, another was handed over to the Air Force Museum of the Bundeswehr in Berlin- Gatow.

The second squadron flew to an out of service in April 2002, the guarantees given by the Fighter Bomber Wing 35 McDonnell Douglas F -4F Phantom II, which were laid in 1997 by horse field after Laage. In Laage Jagdgeschwader 73 was put into service on 18 September 1997 with the award of tradition Names " Steinhoff" again officially. It was named after the former Chief of Staff of the Air Force and General Johannes Steinhoff.

The last nine MiG -29 Fighter Wing 73 "Steinhoff" landed on 4 August 2004 in Bydgoszcz, where they were first converted to the needs of the Polish Air Force and reconditioned part. New base of the machine is the 41 ELT in Malbork. Since 30 April 2004 73 " S" of the Euro Fighter is flown with JG.

Main contractor of the association is the education of all Euro - Fighter pilots of the Air Force. In addition, trained within the framework of a cooperation agreement with the Republic of Austria, the Austrian Euro Fighter pilots in Laage.

To support the Euro Fighter marketing at the Indian Aviation Show " AERO INDIA 2009 " 2009 three Euro Fighter squadron were supported by a tanker aircraft from the Airbus A310 MRTT and 70 soldiers to Air Force Base Yelahanka relocated to Bangalore from 4th to 16th February. A stopover there at the airport in Riyadh Saudi Arabia.

As part of the reorientation of the Bundeswehr Jagdgeschwader 73 "S" ( JG 73 "S") was renamed Tactical Air Force Squadron 73 "S" ( TaktLwG 73 "S") on October 1, 2013.
