Tălmaciu

Tălmaciu ( Talmesch German, Hungarian Nagytalmács ) is a small town in the district of Sibiu in Transylvania, Romania.

Position of the settlement

The city, located on the street 81, 18 kilometers outside the capital of Sibiu county in the south. In the field of Tălmaciu the Sadu ( Zoodt ) opens into the Cibin ( Zibin ).

History

The settlement was first mentioned in 1265. Due to its proximity to the highly strategic Red Tower Pass, Talmesch stood over the centuries repeatedly in the center of the historical and military events.

The castle, which was built in the Middle Ages near Talmesch, Matthias Corvinus was destroyed in the 15th century because they had proved to be too little resistance against the Turkish attacks.

Russian troops fought in 1849 at Talmesch against the Hungarian Honvéd army under József NOTE: Even in World War Talmesch was the scene of hostilities.

In 1989, the village became a town.

The village is located on the busy main road "DN " 7 ( European Route 81 ), the main road connecting Central and Southern Transylvania with Romania's south. Also located in Tălmaciu a railway station of the CFR.
