Țăndărei

Ţăndărei [ t͡səndərĕi ] is a town in the district Ialomiţa in Romania.

Location

Ţăndărei is the Wallachian Plain on the river Ialomiţa in Bărăgan - steppe. The district capital Slobozia located about 25 km southwest of Ţăndărei away.

History

Ţăndărei was first documented in 1594. In 1864 it received the status of a rural community. End of the 19th century Ţăndărei became an important railway hub in eastern Romania. To the station to a new settlement ( Ţăndărei Gară ) developed. 1938-1944 was the electrification of the village. 1968 Ţăndărei was declared a city. The main economic activities are agriculture, food and housing.

Population

1861 were counted in Ţăndărei 261 homes and 310 households. 1874 recorded one 1,235 inhabitants. As of the 2002 census, 12,462 residents were registered in the city, including 10,715 Romanians and 1,731 Roma.

Traffic

Ţăndărei is an important railway junction; from here lead lines after Urziceni in the West, faurei in the north and in the south east of Constanţa. There are good bus connections to Slobozia and Buzău. By Ţăndărei run the national highways 2A and 21A.

Ţăndărei has to have no significant tourist attractions.
