Tank (film)

The tank is an American action-comedy starring James Garner.

Action

The soon to be retired Command Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army Zack Carey gets assigned to his last post. He meets the Deputy Euclid Baker. Carey keeps these corrupt police officers from having to mistreat the prostitute Sarah. The city is under the control of the Sheriff Cyrus Buelton. He sees Carey as a troublemaker and demanded money from Carey. Carey Buelton can accrue more than once.

Buelton seeks revenge and tries hard to make life by all means, Carey. When he finally arrested Carey's son for an alleged drug offense and despite a lush bribe does not give in, Zack Carey decides to take the law into their own hands: With a Sherman tank and the help of Sarah, who was arrested by Buelton for vagrancy and was then forced into prostitution, he now challenges the sheriff and freed his son and all the other prisoners from a training camp of the Sheriff. After the successful escape of the Sheriff Carey asks supervisors for military assistance in the prosecution. This refuses because Carey had filed his military farewell shortly before the run and therefore subject to nurmehr civil jurisdiction.

With his son Carey tried to get into the neighboring state of Tennessee. Under pressure from the public, led by Carey's wife, the Governor of Tennessee is looking now for a political solution and promises Carey a fair hearing.

Finally within sight of the border succeeds Buelton and his men to make the tank with a German Panzerschreck unroadworthy. One motorcycle gang succeeds but to pull the tank and its crew with a steel cable across the border into Tennessee. All spectators, the governor and the former superior of Carey help with it, and ultimately to move the tanks across the border and so to let Sheriff Buelton stand on end as a loser succeed.

The film was in 1985 for Best Family Film - Drama nominated for the Young Artist Award.
