Tanvald

Tanvald ( German Tannwald ) is a city in Okres Jablonec nad Nisou in northern Bohemia ( Jizera Mountains ). It lies at the confluence of the Desna in the Kamenice. The city covers an area of 12.5 km ². Tanvald currently has about 7200 inhabitants and is located on the European road 65 and the National Road 14

Geography

North of Tanvald lies the small town Desna, in the south and to the west Velké Hamry Smržovka. The winter sports center Harrachov lies about 15 kilometers northeast of Tanvald.

History

The village was founded in the 16th century from a wood-cutter colony whose first written record dates from 1586. End of the 18th century, the first Glasschleiferei was built, and in the first half of the 19th century were added in the textile and engineering industries.
