Targmanchats Monastery

The Monastery of the Holy Translators (Armenian Surb Սուրբ Թարգմանչաց վանք Targmantschaz Wank, Azerbaijani Quşçu məbədi ) is a company founded in the 4th century Armenian monastery. It is located four kilometers north of Daşkəsən in today's Azerbaijan.

The monastery was founded by St. Mesrop Mashtots and Sahak the Holy Partew. 411 they translated the Bible from Syriac here.

History

The monastery was founded Targmantschaz at the end of the 4th century or early 5th century. In the years 989 and 1845, the monastery was re-established. The monastery growth during the reign of Bishop Gabriel Harutunjan. During his reign, many people helped from the nearby villages of the monastery. The new heyday of the monastery was during the reign of Stepanos Baljanz in the 1830s. It is known that in 1839 the monk Grigor Ter - Hovhannesjanz three times served as a priest here. In 1849 Archimandrite Sargis followed the Archimandrite Hovhannes.

In the northeast of the monastery there is a vaulted barn.

Name

The Monastery of the Holy Translators ( Surb Targmantschaz ) got its name because on their walls Mesrop Mashtots and Sahak Partew had translated from the Syriac, the Holy Bible.

Description

Church

The main church of the building complex dating back to the 1630. The church consists of a vaulted cathedral with an apse in the east, between the two small rooms.

Is the Gawit, a typical Armenian monasteries attached porch on the west side of the church. A two-story tower south of the porch, built of engraved stones, leads to the main entrance of the church. The hall is located in the north of the church, which probably served as a place of worship - the sacristy.

The cells

Five meters east of the church, there are three cells of the monks, who look to the west. The cells are six vaulted rooms, each having an input and a window that also looks to the west. The cells of the monks were in the same style Built Like the universal Church, built in the form of the 1630. Barn and dining room were added by Archimandrite Stepanos in the 1830s.

The Targmantschaz Monastery is located today in a state of great collapse.
