Capsule system

Disposable capsules marketed as T discs and consisting of a thermoforming plastic capsule which is sealed with an aluminum- coated or made of aluminum foil, and includes the preparation medium ( coffee, tea, milk, etc.). The plastic capsule serves as a brewing chamber, so as in other systems, the capsule immediately after each brewing cycle of the variety without elaborate cleaning of the machine can be changed as the machine hardly comes into contact with the finished product. In the capsules of ground coffee, the finished beverage is filtered by a filter fabric. Unlike other capsule systems found in the Tassimo capsule of both the hot water supply as well as the finished beverage outlet from the same side - namely in the machine from below pierced foil of the capsule - instead of what is advertised as " inverse flow technology ". After preparation of the drink the entire capsule must be disposed of through the municipal waste - an empty capsule weighs about 4.4 g On the foil top of each capsule there is a bar code on the the Tassimo machine can read the appropriate preparation parameters (pressure, volume, temperature, etc.).

In addition to espresso and coffee, the Tassimo machine can also make tea, cocoa drinks and mixed drinks with milk such as cappuccino or latte macchiato with three layers prepare. For this purpose, a capsule for creating the milk foam and then another capsule is inserted for the first espresso. Thanks to our own capsule with liquid milk for the milk froth Tassimo machine require no steam nozzle and are therefore easier to maintain than machines with frothing. In the capsule for the milk foam is a force own patented process for ultrafiltered milk. This should not stuffed or taste of derogation such as powder milk taste the Tassimo milk. Different portion sizes ( the milk capsule for example, has much more content than an espresso capsule) are implemented using different capsule heights.

For the preparation of espresso, the Tassimo machine operates at a lower pressure than traditional espresso machines. Force compensates this technical constraint alleged by the above described inverse flow technology, to be achieved by the all properties of a traditionally prepared espresso ..

Competing systems include Nespresso, Dolce Gusto and Senseo. Unlike the Nespresso capsules are available with coffee, tea and hot chocolate drinks in the retail sector.

Machinery

The Tassimo machines were manufactured from 2005 to 2008 in Romania by Saeco and distributed by Braun. Brown in 2008, the sales of Tassimo machines set as the new parent company Procter & Gamble is also active in the coffee market. Since 2008, the BSH Bosch and Siemens Home Appliances at its factory in Slovenia a model of a Tassimo machine ( T 40 basic ) in four colors and sells them under the brand name Bosch.

The second generation ( appliances from Bosch ) differ from the first generation ( appliances from Braun ) in addition to many detail improvements, especially in two points: Firstly, there is a new patented water heater for use, for a faster and more energy saving heating the water, and cleans on the other the second generation itself with the steam instead of air.

In the second quarter of 2011 came with the T42, the third generation, also out by the manufacturer Bosch. The only difference between the T40 and T42 series is that the T42 is a so-called "Chrome Edition ", ie small areas of housing, which were previously made of plastic, now are made of chrome -nickel steel.

The red model TAS 4013 was introduced later in Germany. In October 2008, the upgraded model was TAS 6515 ( T 65 comfort) presented by Bosch with a display which, inter alia, informed when the machine needs to be descaled.

The brown model TAS 4017 was offered in 2011 as a special edition including a 0.5 -liter jug.

The white model TAS 2011 did not come until the end of 2009 on the market. The TAS 2011 differs significantly from the previous structural models of 4xxx, 6xxx and 8xxx series. The most striking feature is that it is available as an accessory color parts so that the device can be adjusted in blue, red, green, brown and mint in the front color to the kitchen. The cup stand is not adjusted by turning in height, but by pushing it into a higher slot.

Varieties and recipes

In Europe, several brands of coffee, tea and cocoa are offered by the different brands of Kraft Foods such as Jacobs coffee, Kaffee HAG, Twinings and Suchard in T-Discs. In the fall of 2008, the range to the varieties Milka chocolate and Darjeeling tea was (2012 adjusted ) expanded. By early 2011, Starbucks coffee was available in T- discs, as the cooperation of Kraft Foods and Starbucks came to a halt, this variety is only available in remaining stock (as of July 2011). In local retail the usual sorts in T Disc are available. Some varieties, however, are to acquire only the internet.

There are also several recipes for very individual drinks. About the TASSIMO T Disc milk composition also own creations with milk foam are possible without having to pack a cappuccino, latte macchiato must buy etc..

Criticism

In the Critique coffee systems are due to the so-called lock-in. This means that the cost for each coffee machines are low, the subsequent costs for the coffee pods for it - partly by a multiple - higher than that of conventional coffee.

Competitors may be restricted by patents is to build similar coffee pads for the Tassimo. Kraft Foods has filed several patents that describe the Tassimo disc.

In addition, the complex design of the coffee inserts is criticized because, unlike other systems ( Senseo, MyCup ) lead to a very high consumption of raw materials (plastic and aluminum), are not compostable and should be disposed of with household waste.
