Distribution and location

The Himalayan yew is native to China, Vietnam, Taiwan, India, Bhutan, Nepal, Laos (insecure ) and Myanmar. The occurrence of three distinct varieties are not congruent, overlapping but partially.

In China, it grows at altitudes 100-3500 m.

Description

The Himalayan yew grows as a evergreen tree, reaching heights of growth of up to 30 meters with trunk diameters up to 1.3 m. The bark is variable in coloration; it is gray-brown or reddish to purple and breaks into strips which come off. The needles are dark green on top, underside lighter; They are 1-4 cm long and 2-4 mm wide.

The Himalayan yew is dioecious getrenntgeschlechtig ( dioecious ). The maturing from August to December seed is 5-8 times 3-5 mm in size. The seeds of the surrounding seed coat ( aril ) is when ripe orange to red.

Syn: Taxus chinensis var are mairei ( Lemée & H.Lév. ) WCCheng & LKFu, Taxus mairei Lemée & H.Lév.
  • Taxus wallichiana var wallichiana: home are the Chinese provinces of Sichuan, Xizang and Yunnan, as well as Bhutan, India, Nepal, Myanmar and Vietnam. Syn: Taxus contorta handle, Taxus yunnanensis WCCheng & LKFu.

Use

The Himalayan yew is often used in their home for reforestation. The wood is used among other things as lumber, furniture and agricultural equipment.
