General
Before Teardrops from My Eyes was released, Ruth Brown was a singer of sentimental ballads, so-called "Torch Songs". When her song writer offered the song, she was initially dismissive of the song, because he was so different from their previous songs. The president of Atlantic Records, Ahmet Ertegun, but had the right feel and persuaded her the song and others that he had chosen for her to take. The song was the first of five number - one hits on the Billboard charts. Overall the song remained eleven weeks in the R & B charts listed. Teardrops from my Eyes was also the first single from Atlantic, which was released on the new 45rpm format.
The song is about a girl who is alone and crying every time begins when she thinks of her lover who has left her. ( " Well, if you see clouds here in my eyes It's just because you said good- bye "). Only when he comes back, everything would be in order ( " Remember the night you told me our love would always be I would not be blue and lonely, well, if you'd come back to me " )
