Teddy Riley
Edward Theodore " Teddy" Riley ( born October 8, 1967 in Harlem, New York) is an American singer-songwriter and producer, and is considered the founder of the New Jack Swing. Through its collaboration with artists such as Michael Jackson, Bobby Brown, Doug E. Fresh, Keith Sweat, Heavy D, Jane Child, etc. and as a member of the groups Guy and Blackstreet, Riley influenced the styles of Contemporary R & B, Hip- Hop and of pop music.
Life
Teddy Riley grew up in New York in Harlem. With three years he started playing drums, with the fifth, he played guitar and trumpet and piano at age eight. Riley later played in various bands in New York. He produced 1986 Kool Moe Dee's single, " Go See the Doctor ". The song was distributed through independent label and reached number 89 of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Music Charts
Career
In 1987, Riley along with Aaron Hall and Timmy Gatling, the R & B group Guy. With their music were Guy pioneers of New Jack Swing. This is the style used Riley already in his collaborations with among others Johnny Kemp (Just Got Paid ), Bobby Brown ( My Prerogative ) and Keith Sweat ( Make It Last Forever ). 1989 Big Daddy Kane's Riley -produced " I Get the Job Done" and other works for The Jacksons, The Winans and James Ingram.
Through the recommendation of Michael Jackson's longtime producer Quincy Jones Riley produced as the main producer Jackson's album Dangerous, released in 1991. It is the most successful album of New Jack Swing with 32 million units sold.
Once dissolved Guy 1992 produced the second album of Riley by Wreckx -N- Effect Hard or Smooth with the title. Here, Riley discovered the Neptunes, who were involved in the production for Wreckx -N- Effects hit single " Rump Shaker". End of 1992, Riley formed his second group called Black Street. The group released several hits such as " No Diggity " (1996, with Dr. Dre and Queen Pen ), " Do not Leave Me" (1997) and "Girlfriend / Boyfriend" (1999, with Janet Jackson, Eve and Ja Rule ). By 2011, the group split up several times and reunited.
In 2008 he had to sell his studio in Virginia to settle its tax liabilities in the amount of $ 1 million.
2009 Riley joined once again with Guy on at the BET Awards. That same year, Riley worked with Amerie and Robin Thicke on their albums.
