Teddy Smith

Theodore " Teddy" Smith ( born January 22, 1932 in Washington, DC; † August 24, 1979 ) was an American jazz bassist of modern jazz.

Teddy Smith was involved in 1956 in the recording of the Cole Porter album of Sonny Criss. In 1960 he played in the backing band of singer Betty Carter, 1961/62 in the band of saxophonist Clifford Jordan ( Bearcat ). In April 1962, he worked on Kenny Dorhams album Matador. 1962/63 he worked with Jackie McLean and Slide Hampton. In the summer of 1964, Smith played with Sonny Rollins ( The Standard Rollins ). Smith was then primarily through its participation in the Horace Silver album Song for My Father known, grossed whose quintet with Joe Henderson and Carmell Jones in October 1964 for Blue Note; He also appeared with Silver 1964 on the Jazz Festival in Montreux, Antibes and Paris. In August 1966, he still looked at Sonny Simmons ' Staying on the ESP album Watch; in the aftermath were no other jazz recordings with bassist.
