History

The construction began before the Islamic Revolution of 1979. The original design was based on the Dallas -Fort Worth. The company was originally commissioned TAMS, an association of U.S. architects. A local joint venture called TAMS AFA was formed to carry out the construction.

After the Islamic Revolution was decided by the government of Iran to allow the airport to design with local know -how and build. The French firm ADP was selected to support the local architects and engineering companies. A local construction company ( Kayson ) was awarded the contract to build the airport awarded. After two years of this agreement was terminated and the revolutionary government organization Bonyad Mostazafan ( poor ) & Janbazan ( martyr ) (M & J Foundation) commissioned to build.

After the construction of the first terminal building was completed by M & J Foundation, decided the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization to transfer the construction of the second terminal building of the Turkish- Austrian company TAV.

The original opening was set for February 1, 2004, the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution of 1979. Now after numerous delays in the construction there were problems in the delivery of supply to the new airport. Thus, the opening was only on 8 May 2004.

Terminal building

The terminal building is divided into three levels:

On the lower level are two halls divided the baggage claim for arriving flights with subsequent customs inspection. Location and Transport

The airport is located 30 kilometers southwest of the city between the Tehran - Qom and Tehran - Saveh highways. A connection to the subway Teheran is planned.
