Tekor Basilica

The Church of St. Sarkis in Tekor (Armenian Տեկորի տաճար, Turkish Aziz Sargis Kilisesi ), also known as Tekor 's Basilica, after the date of Josef Strzygowski was built in the 5th century Armenian church in the historical Armenia, now in eastern Turkey. It was destroyed by earthquakes and built over in the 1960s by the city administration.

The Tekor Basilica was across the city in the province of Kars Digor about 16 kilometers west of the Armenian border. Tekor was a three-aisled longitudinal cross-domed church. It was in 1911 and 1935 almost completely destroyed by earthquakes. Low wall residues were removed in the 1960s to build a city hall (now also destroyed). The inscriptions, dating the building to the 480s years, were the earliest known Armenian inscriptions.

Until its destruction the Tekor Basilica was considered the oldest Armenian domed basilica.
