Tekovská Breznica

Tekovská Breznica ( German Bresnitz on Gran, Hungarian Barsberzence - to 1902 Berzence ) is a town in central Slovakia.

Location

It is located in Pohronie on the left bank of the river, at the foot of Selmec mountains, 5 km from the town of Nová Bana.

History

The village was first mentioned in 1276 as Berzenche and belonged to the abbey of Hronský Beňadik. A Gothic castle was built by the Archdiocese of Gran at the beginning of the 13th century. 1312 conquered Matthew Csák the castle, after his death in 1321 but she returned to the diocese. The population of the municipality was concerned with agriculture, haulage company, pottery and forestry. Since the 16th century it belonged to the Archbishopric of Gran and then since 1776 the diocese of Banska Bystrica.
