Tekovské Lužany

Tekovské Lužany ( until 1948 slovak " Tekovské Šarluhy " - to 1927 " Veľké Šarluhy "; Hungarian Nagysalló ) is a municipality in western Slovakia. It is located in the Danube lowland near the river Lužianka, 12 km from the city Želiezovce.

The village was first mentioned in 1156 as Surlou and belonged to the archbishopric of Gran Since the 16th century it was a small town. 1845 she received market rights. In the wake of the revolutions of 1848/49 at April 19, 1849 one of the biggest battles between the Hungarian Honvéden and imperial troops took the place.

By 1918/1919 it belonged to the county bars the Kingdom of Hungary, after which they came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. Because of the First Vienna Award 1938-1945 it belonged again to Hungary and since 1993 has been part of the present-day Slovakia. In 1948, the village name was like many others in the area changed due to the linguistic proximity of the name to Hungary in " Tekovské Lužany ".

The commune includes in addition to the main town also Tekovské Lužianky and Hulvinky (both incorporated in 1965 ).

In the village there is a baroque church of St. Stephan from 1745, a baroque column of the Holy Trinity (1755 ), a Reformed church from the year ( 1784), a neoclassical originally baroque castle (17th century) and a war memorial (1876 ).
