Tele Atlas

Tele Atlas was a Dutch company based in 's- Hertogenbosch, the digital maps for geographical information systems (GIS ), location-based service location-based services (LBS ) and manufactures navigation systems. In 2011, Tele Atlas was merged with the company TomTom.

Tele Atlas entertained subsidiaries and affiliates worldwide. The German branch and at the same time the seat of the Tele Atlas Germany GmbH is located in Lower Saxony Harsum.

Tele Atlas has been since 2000 on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange with listing on the Nasdaq ( TA6 ) and traded on the Euro Next (TA ) in Amsterdam.

The biggest competitor of Tele Atlas is the U.S. company Navteq, which was acquired by Nokia, as well as the free project OpenStreetMap.

History

After TomTom had announced on 23 July 2007, wanting to take over Tele Atlas for nearly two billion euros, Garmin announced on 31 October 2007, at a bid of around 2.3 billion euros. Ultimately gave TomTom from the highest bid and was on 16 November 2007, the acquisition of Tele Atlas announce for 2.9 billion euros. On 14 May 2008, the acquisition was approved by the European Commission.
